Mission Statement
To lead permit applicants through design, plan preparation and application details in an efficient and helpful manner. Requested inspections are accomplished on the same day using the approved plans, which ensures full compliance of state and local codes.
Program Description
The Building Services Division’s activity ensures that the designers and contractors of St. Johns County employ the most cost effective construction detail, which will comply with all building codes, ordinances and Florida Statutes. Submitted applications and plans are studied, and when determined they comply with all requirements, are approved and returned for reference on the job site. Permitted projects are followed by prompt, thorough and complete inspections. This assures code compliance of work and the use of licensed contractors.
The permit, which is coded, allows tracking of the project throughout numerous field inspections. A formal Certificate of Occupancy is issued upon completion, which certifies that to the best of our knowledge, the construction work is in code compliance and acceptable for human use. The Building Services Division issues contractor licenses and monitors complaints of unlicensed contractors or faulty work. This division also determines and assures collection of impact fees, fire marshal and solid waste fees on new construction in the County.
