Finance & Support Services
Support Services provides administrative support to all sections of St. Johns County Fire Rescue. Services include human resource functions, emergency medical services patient billing, budget and finance, HIPAA compliance, records retention, and medical direction through the department’s Medical Director. The Support Services Chief also insures compliance with all local, state and federal regulations relating to ambulance services, infection control, and may coordinate medical-legal issues with legal counsel.
EMS patient billing maintains a high rate of collection for transport services, exceeding the national average collection rate as listed in the 2006 Journal of Emergency Medicine. Approximately 40% of the cost of operating emergency medical services transport is returned to the General Fund through the billing and collection efforts of this section.
The Support Section is also responsible for preparing and administering the combined fire service (fire district tax), emergency medical services (general fund), and fire rescue communications (general fund) budgets. Additionally, this section administers grant funding for department projects that includes federal, state, and regional grant applications and awards.
